my army-wife friend, janae, is hosting a drive for operation gratitude, a non-profit organization that sends needed care packages to our soldiers. right now, the men and women stationed in afghanistan need the help of those of use that are handy with the yarn. it is freezing in the afghan mountains where the soldiers are sleeping in tents.
please join me in donating a hand knit scarf or helmet liner. we can show our gratitude and give warmth at the same time. the deadline is very soon, please go here for all the details and important rules before you begin knitting (or crocheting)! in this season of thanksgiving, freedom and those who fight for it are high on my list.

Hey I wish I knew how to knit but I just wanted to say thanks! My brother is serving in the mountains of Afghanistan and we just got a call from him today. We only get to hear from him once a month. They will love you guys so much for it!

I don't knit, but I do crochet. Are they accepting crocheted scarves?

If only I was at home I could finish my scarf (the one I have been working on for years) and send it to them! This is so nice!

kelly, thanks so much for posting this! You are the best! I haven't had any takers yet but it really is short notice. Next year I'm hoping to do this again and start it a lot earlier.
I went and bought my yarn the other night from blazing needles in SLC- such a great little shop. I couldn't leave with just one skein so now I have enough yarn to make a few more for next year and one for the husband- if things work out he'll be in Afghanistan this time next year.

I think this is such a great idea, and I know our men overseas appreciate the time and love put in to these projects.
