losing a tooth is very traumatic for cate. she lets it hang by a thread refusing any type of help getting it out. for weeks she guards it and talks funny and can't eat right. it's a pain.
it was really really ready to come out the other day. it was a beautiful day and i told her if she wanted to go play at the park she'd have to let me get it out so she didn't choke on it. she said no way and she'd hold it in with a cloth.
it is not fun playing at the park holding a tooth in with a cloth.
but her favorite bff cousins eventually got her to have some fun.
and they spent a lot of time coaching her on the ins and outs of tooth wiggling and loss and fairies. at this age, losing teeth is a main part of your life. they swapped stories and relaxed cate a bit.
i spent a lot of time admiring my wal-mart gladiators. can you believe it? and it was warm enough for cut-offs. hooray.
and then we left the park, tooth still hanging and bleeding.
but alas, in the car on the way home, the tooth gently fell into the washcloth. the trauma was over, and cate was excitedly predicting her tooth fairy earnings.
exhausting.

That is funny! When she lost the other one at our house she was so brave! Last year, Max went to kindergarten one day with a wash cloth to hold his tooth in. It was disgusting, and I wanted to DIE.

you are speakin' my language, mama! my oldest daughter lets her teeth hang by a thread, until biting into bread makes it fall out! i have such a hard time not yanking the darn thing!

Sometimes we just need to surrender and everything just works out on it's own. Yay for Cate, and yay for you!

That's too funny. When I had a loose tooth I couldn't wait to get it out. I literally could not stop touching it until it was under my pillow.
Kids are funny!

I cannot get over how much kate has changed since I first started reading your blog almost two years ago. What a cute little snaggle tooth. :)

I just went through the same tooth traumas last week when my daughter (eventually) lost her top two teeth. Oh, how many meals that she complained she couldn't eat. How many times she refused to brush her teeth. And then it's over and she's so proud of that space.

remember when i left the tooth fairy (who i knew was dad) a note to please, for once, leave me more than a dollar bill... the next morning there was a dollar bill and two pennies under my pillow.

your kate & my maddie are long lost sisters.
mads finally came out after hanging for four weeks when a basketball at school hit her.
it would still be hanging if it wasn't for that ball.

my daughter was like this too! not wanting to have any pain involved in the tooth loss. :) so much so that her adult tooth came in OVER her baby tooth. one tooth finally came out during teeth brushing and i said "Please let me take the other one out! it's just hanging there!" i convinced her...took forever...then i couldn't get the tiny thing with my fingers. i grabbed a needle nose pliers in the drawer. she about had a heart attack! i said "trust me" one second later...the teeny tiny tooth was out. oh the drama!!!

Oh, that hurts.. emotionally! I mean, that's something you protected for weeks and it just ended up like that? Come on! But it's a good thing her bff cousins were there to save the day. So how much did she earn from the tooth fairy? LOL!

I love the last picture! :) Her smile is so cute! It's so funny that your kid actually made an effort to hold his tooth while playing. LOL. My daughter is quite excited to lose her first tooth so that's not a problem for me.

Wow! She just waited for her tooth to fall out! Eventually it was a success, even though it took a long time for her to convince that it should go. Thank goodness her cousins were there to rescue her from that painful ordeal.
